Jess & Sam’s Story

Jess & Sam reflect on how a shoplifting spree bought them into contact with the criminal justice system and the impacts this had on their own lives, their families and community.

The aim of the project was to provide young offenders with a creative space from reflecting on the impact that their offending behaviour has had on their lives, their families and their communities.

Working in partnership with the Wakefield Youth Offending Team, the project was designed to support young people to develop alternatives to offending and re-build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

A secondary aim of the project was to create resources for use in education work with young people, focussing on the impacts that offending has on many lives.

Each film was directly produced with the storyteller, enabling them to plan and make story decisions about the things they wished to share about their experiences.

The project framework was a partnership between the Wakefield Youth Offending Team, the Prisons Video Trust, National Lottery Awards For All and ‘My Choice, My Impact’.
